Original painting of giant flag irises that were fading and dropping, making way for the spectacularly blousy peonies.
During the course of this painting I discovered that iris give the most incredible ink as they are dying and I incorporated some of this into the painting along with the vibrant acrylic paint I am using here.
The acrylic paint provides vivid lightfast colour as well as texture which is very important to me. I love scraping through the paint to reveal other tones beneath, this also allows the introduction of line within the paint.
390 x 520mm on watercolour paper.
